Punch press mechanical clamping arm

The robotic arm of the hot forging press automatically performs feeding, forging, and transfer operations in high-temperature, dusty environments.

Hot forging robot arms serve as the core of die forging automation, featuring high-temperature resistance and impact resilience. Commonly employing four-degree-of-freedom Cartesian or cam-driven mechanisms, they can be servo- or hydraulically-driven to perform material handling, die feeding, part removal, and process transfer. With cycle times ≤2.5 seconds and positioning accuracy of ±0.2 mm, these systems incorporate water-cooled grippers and thermal compensation. They are widely used for efficient production of hot-forged components such as bolts and connecting rods.

Robotic Arm Workflow

Servo-driven ball screw transmission, equipped with pneumatic grippers and a detection system, enables precise and smooth loading and unloading.

Workflow

1.The heating furnace heats the bar stock. Once heated to the appropriate temperature, the bar stock slides down the chute onto the conveyor line. The conveyor line transports the workpiece to the conveyor chain transport mechanism. When the sensor detects that the robotic arm loading position is empty and the chute loading position has received material, it simultaneously issues a signal indicating the discharge bar is in position.

2.Upon receiving the signal that the billet is in position, the hot forging manipulator performs temperature screening. After confirming the temperature meets specifications, the manipulator grips the billet, issues a material retrieval completion signal, and feeds the billet into the press. The press’s ejection mechanism then activates, causing the upper die to release the workpiece. The manipulator’s front end guides the previously forged workpiece onto the discharge chute. The manipulator then retracts to a safe position to prepare for material retrieval, signaling completion of feeding. If the temperature fails inspection, the manipulator discards the bar into the scrap chute, where it enters the scrap bin.

3.Upon receiving the feed completion signal, the hot forging robotic system automatically checks whether the upper die workpiece has been ejected. If ejection is successful, the press proceeds with the forging operation and returns to the top safety position. If ejection fails, the system triggers a stuck die alarm and pauses operation.
