Graphite mixer machine

A hot forging graphite mixer is a specialized mixing device used to thoroughly mix and coat copper blanks with graphite powder before hot forging.

The hot forging graphite mixer is a specialized piece of equipment used before hot forging of copper billets. It is used to uniformly mix copper billets with graphite. Through tumbling and shearing by ribbons or paddles, it causes the graphite to form a solid, high-temperature lubricating film on the surface of the copper billet, while simultaneously removing burrs. The mixed copper billet is then directly heated in the furnace. During hot forging, it reduces stamping pressure, minimizes die wear, improves metal fluidity and forming quality, and avoids defects such as sticking and folding. It is a key auxiliary machine for improving the yield rate of automated hot forging lines for copper valves, pipe fittings, and other products.

WHY choose us

our adavantage

The graphite mixer completes mixing, deburring, and film formation in 3 minutes, resulting in 15% less graphite uniformity, 50% less friction, 1.8 times longer mold life, and a 60% reduction in defect rate. Synchronized operation saves 60% on labor, achieving a 98% yield rate – highly efficient and low-cost.

Uniform lubricating film

During the mixing process, a dense and continuous 3–5 μm film of graphite is formed on the surface of the copper billet, which reduces the coefficient of friction by more than 50% at high temperatures and results in more complete filling.

High forming quality

Simultaneous deburring and filling of micro-dimples reduce the rate of defects such as folding and missing material after hot stamping by 60%, and improve dimensional accuracy by one level.

High production efficiency

A single mixing process takes only 3–6 minutes to coat the entire batch of billets. When combined with automatic feeding and furnace cycle time, it increases single-shift output by 30%.

Low overall cost

Graphite usage is reduced by 15%, mold life is extended by 1.8–2 times, subsequent shot blasting and polishing processes are halved, and labor and energy consumption are significantly reduced.

The combined production of red-forging graphite mixer and red-forging machine

Through linkage, the traditional “manual ink application → heating → single-machine red die stamping” process can be upgraded to a fully automated continuous flow, saving 60% of labor, increasing mold life by 1.8 times, and stabilizing the yield rate at over 98%.

Synchronized feeding rhythm

Copper billets are vibrated and sorted by a metering belt, and then fed into the mixer in batches according to the red-hot stamping machine’s cycle time (e.g., 20 pieces/min). The mixer’s PLC records the weight of each batch and exchanges “requirement/completion” signals with the red-hot stamping machine’s main control unit to ensure that there is neither material accumulation nor idle time.

Integrated mixing-coating-discharging

The graphite mixer completes the “mixing-deburring-film formation” process in 3 minutes. The pneumatic valve at the bottom of the barrel is directly connected to the sealing belt. The discharge port height is the same as the gripping position of the walking beam/robot, so the copper billet can enter the induction heating furnace without secondary loading.

Heating-Red-Power Connection

Infrared temperature measurement is set at the outlet of the heating furnace. If the temperature is qualified, the signal is sent to the safety interlock of the hot stamping machine. If it is lower than the set value, the robotic arm automatically returns the copper billet to the heat preservation position to ensure that the temperature of each billet is consistent and to reduce the thermal shock of the mold.

Lubrication compensation closed loop

Micro-spray graphite emulsion nozzles are installed near the lower die of the hot stamping machine, automatically replenishing the spray based on die count or stamping pressure fluctuations; simultaneously, the mixer receives feedback on the “replenishment spray count” and automatically adjusts the graphite ratio for the next batch of copper billets, achieving optimal lubrication throughout the entire process.

Data traceability and maintenance

All cycle time, temperature, pressure, and lubrication dosage are entered into the MES system to generate batch traceability codes; mold life and mixer screw wear values are linked to output, providing early maintenance reminders and reducing unexpected downtime.

Graphite Mixer machine Workflow

The burrs on the surface of the copper billet are removed by utilizing the slippage and micro-cutting action of graphite particles, which helps in the subsequent hot stamping process at 600–700 °C.

Workflow

1.Ingredients: Add a measured amount of copper billet and graphite to a mixing tank according to a graphite powder : water ratio of approximately 1 : 8-10 (or 100% dry graphite powder).

2.Premixing: Low-speed start-up, inner and outer anti-spiral ribbons (or high-speed blades) continuously tumble and roll the copper billet and graphite up and down and inside and outside, causing the graphite particles to initially adhere.

3.Shearing and polishing: The ribbon or flying knife generates shearing/grinding, and the graphite micro-grinds the burrs on the surface of the copper billet, while filling the micro-pits to form a dense lubricating layer.

4.Thickening and homogenization: Continue mixing at low speed for 2-3 minutes to allow some of the moisture to evaporate, making the graphite film bond more firmly to the metal surface;

5.Discharge: After the set time (generally 3 to 6 minutes) is reached, the barrel is tilted or the bottom pneumatic door is opened to directly send the copper billet that has been uniformly coated with graphite into the front section of the heating furnace.

Online touch-up coating (optional): On some production lines, graphite emulsion is sprayed onto the stamping dies to replenish the high-temperature volatile components and ensure adequate lubrication throughout the hot stamping process.
